Camino Real Audio CD Road Trip
The Camino Real (I-25) between Albuquerque and Santa Fe was the King's Highway, labeled by the Spanish conquistadors and later used by the Spanish colonists coming up from Mexico City. It too followed one of the old trade routes established by pre-Colombian Indians. Today, I-25 is the main north-south route from El Paso to central Montana.
This Galloping Galleries Road Trip brings to life the history and background of five pueblos along the Rio Grande (Sandia, Santa Ana, San Felipe, Santo Domingo, and Cochiti), providing a brief history of each pueblo, highlighting some of their traditional arts and craft forms.
The CD describes the arrival and winter encampment of Coronado—the first Spaniard the Pueblos encountered. Our geologist explains the fascinating geology of the Rio Grande valley and La Bajada—the steep escarpment that divides New Mexico into Rio Arriba and Rio Abajo—and the roles both played in the area's development.
The CDs point out several interesting destinations, and encapsulate the history and cultures of both Albuquerque and Santa Fe along with myths and legends that add to the mystique of New Mexico's unique landscape.
