Rio Grande Botanical Garden and Aquarium
Opened in 1996, the 33 million dollar facility is a must see if you find yourself in or around Old Town. A 10,000 square foot glass conservatory houses a seasonal butterfly exhibit featuring hundreds of free-flying North American butterflies and exotic plants from desert and Mediterranean climate zones. The Garden currently sprawls across 20 developed acres. After taking in the Aquarium and Garden, the visitor will have walked about 1.6 miles! The Albuquerque Aquarium takes visitors on a journey down the Rio Grande from Albuquerque to its mouth in the Gulf of Mexico. On display is a chilling eel tunnel, iridescent jellies and a ocean tank with sandtiger, blacktip and nurse sharks.
